Bugal and Bugay — Mulavex Designs the Visual Identity of Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2026

February 4, 2026 | Iloilo, Philippines — The annual Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo is a vibrant cultural and religious celebration honoring Señor Santo Niño (the Child Jesus). Rooted in the rich history and heritage of Panay Island, the festival is best known for its electrifying Ati-Atihan–inspired street dancing, elaborate costumes, and powerful drum performances. Celebrated every year around the fourth Sunday of January, Dinagyang unfolds through a series of events and activities leading up to its highly anticipated festival highlight on Sunday, drawing thousands of locals and tourists to the streets of Iloilo City. As the creative team behind the 2026 Dinagyang Festival’s visual identity and social media graphics, months of strategic preparation guided the project, with development beginning as early as October 2025. Our scope of work covered the conceptualization and creation of the festival’s official logo, visual assets, and design templates, all carefully crafted to reflect the energy, heritage, and spirit that Dinagyang represents.

The Iconic Totem Logo

The Iconic Totem Logo — Official Dinagyang Festival 2026 Logo — tells a narrative that embodies that of the Ilonggo spirit. The concept behind the logo is grounded in the idea of incorporating Bugay (Blessings) and Bugal (Pride) aligning with this year’s festival.

At the core of the logo are symbols that represents the gifts bestowed upon the Ilonggos. These gifts— referred to as Bugay (Blessings) — consists of two categories pertaining to both Flora and Fauna. Each blessing is followed with a deep interpretation that reflects values of life. Flora’s like the Begonia (Begonia madulidii) which symbolizes that every bloom is a gift to nurture, and Rafflesia (Rafflesia speciosa) which serves as a reminder to honor creation’s wonders; and Fauna’s like the Visayan Warty Pig (Sus cebifrons) that echoes nature’s enduring spirit, the Visayan Hornbill (Penelopides panini) which symbolizes a peaceful-living with creation, and the Visayas Spotted Deer (Rusa alfredi) which symbolizes a care for life with faith and compassion.

The other core of the logo are symbols that represents the Bugal (Pride) of Ilonggos and their spirits. Consists of the logo are the Dinagyang Warrior that embodies courage and care for creation, the Church where gratitude becomes a shared devotion, and the Señor Santo Niño which serves as the source of blessings, pride and thanksgiving.

The logo serves more than just a mark— it is a tribute to land, culture, faith, and people and within its deeper interpretation lies a reminder that our blessings are our pride, and our pride is rooted in grace.

Designing the Festival Passport

One of the key deliverables designed by the Mulavex Team for the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2026 is the Festival Passport. Created as an engaging way for festival-goers to explore Iloilo, the passport allows participants to collect stamps and redeem exclusive Dinagyang merchandise once the required quota is reached.

From a design perspective, the passport features iconic motifs used throughout the festival—from the Bugay (Blessings), represented through rich flora and fauna elements, to the Bugal (Pride) that reflects the Ilonggo spirit. Selected symbols were also adapted as pin indicators to help locate various festival-related events. The overall map design incorporates the official brand colors of the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2026, tying the visual identity together.

Social Media Collaterals as a Service

The Mulavex Team was also responsible for graphic theme and layouts used by the official Iloilo Dinagyang Festival page during the festival proper and its build-up. To support effective communication during the festival’s build-up, the team developed a collection of ready-to-use graphic templates for organizers and Event Public Information Officers (PIOs). These templates were utilized to inform and guide festival-goers throughout the lead-up week and into the main highlights of the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2026.

The graphic templates included publication materials for performing tribes, festival events, public advisories, and other essential announcements. In addition, graphic logo designs were created ahead of the festival to establish distinct visual sub-identities for each event, enhancing recognition and strengthening the overall branding of the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2026.
